Ask an Expert: Music Therapy
Join and explore the efficacy of Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) and how it can assist in neurorehabilitation, looking at research studies and case examples. Three specific interventions will be discussed:
- Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS)
- Therapeutic Instrumental Music Performance (TIMP)
- Patterned Sensory Enhancement (PSE).
By the end of the presentation, participants will have a basic understanding of NMT, identify NMT interventions in the sensorimotor domain and have a basic understanding of the neuroscience of music in relationship to NMT and the sensorimotor domain.
Presenter: Chrystalla Paleshi, a certified music therapist, consultant therapist at the Canadian Music Therapy Fund, and a Fellow of the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Chrystalla has experience applying music therapy techniques with a variety of populations with goals in the cognitive, motor and speech and language domains.
